The Assistant Program Director (APD) supervises all aspects of summer camp at their assigned site. The APD leads and supports the summer staff community, and works to create and foster intentional community. They oversee the daily schedule, communicate with the site team, and facilitate daily and weekly staff meetings .They run registration /check-in assuring hospitality and welcome and lead closing program/checkout. The APD oversees the daily rhythms of camp to ensure quality of program, hospitality of site, and safety of all.

The Program Coordinator supervises and supports all aspects of residential overnight youth camp between both sites. They plan and integrate age appropriate programming into daily and weekly schedules. They lead and support camp counselors to ensure quality of program, hospitality of site, and safety of all.

The Day Camp Coordinator supervises and supports all aspects of on-site & off-site day camp activities. They coordinate with Community Day Camp leaders to ensure open communication, quality programming, and safety. They manage and send out Community Day Camp teams prepared to lead camp and support volunteer teams. The Day Camp Coordinator plans and executes on-site day camp working with camp counselors and activity leaders.

The Chaplain leads and supports the summer community as a spiritual director. They pray with and for summer staff, walk alongside them in the wear & tear of the summer, and be there for the staff when they need someone to talk to. They assist in worship, bible study, and faith formation conversations with campers and guests.They coordinate with visiting pastors, deacons, and youth leaders to ensure hospitality and welcome into the community.

Camp Counselors supervise and support 6-10 campers in a cabin group, grades K-12. They work directly with campers to ensure a safe and Christ-centered environment that fosters faith growth and fun. Camp counselors facilitate Rubbaboo (Bible Study), games, team building, and activities in small and large group settings. They are responsible for time management of the cabin and or some planning with cabin groups according to the daily program. Camp Counselors walk alongside campers in learning canoeing, camping, and outdoor skills.

Activity Leaders work with on site and off site day program campers, family campers, and may stay in a cabin overnight with campers and a camp counselor. Activity leaders work directly with campers to ensure a safe and Christ-centered environment that fosters faith growth and fun. Activity leaders are responsible for leading Rubbaboo (Bible Study), games, and activities in small and large group settings.

The Health Care Coordinator cares for the health and safety of the camp community within their scope of practice. They assist with camper check-in & check-out, collect and review health forms, and communicate pertinent information to the team. They administer medication and first aid, and treat minor illnesses and injuries of campers and staff in accordance with VLM healthcare policies and procedures. They are responsible for maintaining the healthcare center, first aid kits, and first aid bags. The Health Care Coordinator is expected to participate in life of camp, including activities, games, bible study, and worship as needed and available. Minimum of advanced First Aid and CPR training required. This person may serve as an activity leader or counselor as needed.

The Waterfront Coordinator is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and fun waterfront area for all. They supervise and train lifeguards when on the waterfront, provide daily maintenance of the beach front and equipment, and orientate guests and campers using the waterfront. Expected to support all waterfront activities: canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, sauna use, etc. The Waterfront Coordinator is expected to participate in life of camp, including activities, games, bible study, and worship as needed and available. Minimum of Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR training is required for this position. This person may serve as an activity leader or counselor as needed.

The Canteen and Media Coordinator oversees management of the camp store and media. They will manage the daily canteen, and facilitate purchases for campers using a point of sale system. They will oversee camper canteen accounts, maintain inventory, restock supplies, and ensure a clean and welcoming store environment. When not in the canteen, they will capture the essence of camp life through photography, videography, and social media, ensuring each camper is highlighted positively. They will be responsible for uploading camper photos daily for parents/guardians to view and manage camper mail. The Canteen and Media Coordinator is expected to participate in life of camp, including activities, games, bible study, and worship as needed and available. This person may serve as an activity leader or counselor as needed.

The Worship and Bible Study Coordinator will Organize and prepare all Bible study materials and oversee Bible study and worship supply inventories across both sites. They will plan and prepare daily worship experiences for campers.They will oversee and assist in the planning of specialty worships such as campout worships, opening and closing worships, and staff commission worship at Camp Hiawatha. They will assign roles for worship experiences among the summer staff, and coordinate any special worships or devotional activities for campers and staff. The Worship and Bible Study Coordinator is expected to participate in life of camp, including activities, games, bible study, and worship as needed and available.This person may serve as an activity leader or counselor as needed.

The Crafts and Activities Coordinator organizes and supervises creative arts activities, including but not limited to tie-dye/indigo dye, painting, nature crafts, and more. They are responsible for working with site leadership to set up Grover (camp activities), Rubbaboo (bible study) supplies, coordinate/lead team building, and all-camp games. They are responsible for inventory and supplies maintenance in the designated craft areas, ball sheds, and team building areas. The Crafts and Activities Coordinator is expected to participate in life of camp, including activities, games, bible study, and worship as needed and available.This person may serve as an activity leader or counselor as needed.

The Nature and Camping Coordinator responsible for organization, cleanliness, and inventory of Nature Center and in-camp Trail Shack gear area. They will maintain all gear and equipment, prepare and facilitate in-camp overnight activities, and will plan and lead daily nature-related activities, including but not limited to: nature hikes, orienteering, berry picking, shelter building, canoeing, and more. They  will teach principles of leave no trace and stewardship practices to campers, staff, and volunteers. The Nature and Camping Coordinator will help orient campers to gear, and will assist in teaching camping skills including fire building, washing dishes, and pitching tents alongside counselors.The Nature and Camping Coordinator is expected to participate in life of camp, including activities, games, bible study, and worship as needed and available.This person may serve as an activity leader or counselor as needed.

Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of all guests participating in our aquatic activities.They supervise swimmers, administer swim tests, and enforce rules to prevent accidents. In situations of distress, they need to act swiftly and confidently to rescue the individual and administer first aid. They will be pivotal in maintaining a secure and enjoyable environment at the waterfront. They will work under the close supervision of both the Waterfront Coordinator and the Assistant Program Directors, emphasizing teamwork and collaboration in overall responsibilities. Minimum of Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR training is required for this position. This position may be an hourly commute position or combined with additional position to be fully residential if over age of 16.

Kitchen Assistants are responsible for assisting the head cook with food preparation, serving, and consequent clean-up, while maintaining appropriate food safety procedures. They will maintain the cleanliness of the dining hall (including bathrooms), help prepare cook-out meals and equipment, and other duties as assigned.This position may be an hourly commute position or fully residential if 16+. Residential staff are expected to take part in staff training and participate in the life of camp, including activities, games, bible study, and worship as needed and available.This person may serve as an activity leader or counselor as needed.

Maintenance Assistants are responsible for assisting the Property Manager in all areas of grounds and facilities upkeep, including cleaning, basic building maintenance, garbage and recycling pick-up, mowing/weed whipping, and other duties as assigned. Some “fix-it” skills are preferred as well as a willingness to learn. Flexibility in scheduling may be necessary. This position may be an hourly commute position or fully residential if 16+. Residential staff are expected to take part in staff training and participate in the life of camp, including activities, games, bible study, and worship as needed and available. This person may serve as an activity leader or counselor as needed.

Position Requirements: A desire for adventure. Current lifeguard/Wilderness Water Safety, Wilderness First Aid, and CPR certifications are required. Wilderness ethics and experience are appreciated. VLM will provide training and certification.

Job Description: Guides are responsible for the overall navigation, safety, and well-being of up to 8 individuals, including at least 1 adult advisor, on a wilderness canoe trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness or adjacent primitive area. Canoe guides will be trained in team building, small group development and will be equipped with tools in order to facilitate Rubbaboo (Bible study) while in the BWCAW.  When not guiding, this position will be a support position at Camp Vermilion. 

Position Requirements: Current Lifeguard, Wilderness First Aid, and CPR required. VLM will provide training and certification. Valid driver’s license.  Must be willing/able to drive a 15 passenger van with a canoe trailer (training will be provided). Prior camp experience and ability to fulfill the responsibilities of a Canoe Guide preferred.

Job Description: Responsible for supervising all aspects of the Canoe Country Program. Assist with staff training, directly oversee and mentor the Canoe Guides,  lead orientation for groups, review and evaluate trips, organize and maintain all Canoe Country gear, food, and inventory. Drive trips to and from BWCAW entry points. Support canoeing and camping programming at Camp Vermilion as directed by supervisors and as schedule permits.
